ADDRESS FROM LEIDEN
When your zip code is somewhere between 2300 and 2400, you have an address in Leiden. But that's not what we're talking about today. Het Leids Adres (the Address from Leiden) was a petition written by factory owners and other manufacturers addressed to King William III of the Netherlands. The petition requested that the King would make laws to determine how much children were allowed to work and when they should go to school. This all happened in 1863, long before child labor would be outlawed. However, the script formed an important step in the right direction. Child labor for kids below 12 years old would finally be outlawed in 1874.
